Early in the game these scrolls are proportionally expensive, but before long your hoard of Gold will grow until they represent a mere pittance. Use one before stepping into dangerous areas. You can stock up on whatever supplies you need and then head back into the very point that you left the Dungeon. What's a Portal Scroll, you ask? It's a handy item that allows you to create an instant bolt-hole back to town. If you do, well, that’s what Portal Scrolls are for. The game provides plenty of Potions from drops and Gold to purchase more, so don’t be afraid to use them when you’re running low. If either is below a quarter, refill it! Use a potion, cast a spell, or just wait for regeneration, but stay out of fights when you are below a quarter healthy. The second-to-second gameplay of Torchlight 2 breaks down to a series of aggressive mouse-clicks interspersed by quick resource management decisions. Below are a few core strategies which will greatly enhance your effectiveness in combat, and in turn provide for a much more rewarding play experience. You can attempt to hack your way through the stages, selecting equipment purely on the basis of the biggest numbers, but that approach won’t carry you far through the upper difficulty levels.
